Who I Am

Hello! My name is Cadrian Hutsell and here’s a little bit of my story.

I grew up in a small town called Licking, located in South-Central Missouri. I have always had a passion for music. I started writing songs at a young age and finally began taking piano lessons when I was 7 years old. I also loved to sing. I would never sing in front of people because of fear of what they would think of me. Finally, when I was in 7th grade, I entered the talent show at my school. I performed “Someone Like You” by Adele by singing and playing piano. This was the first time I had sang in front of anyone outside of my church. I still remember the joy I felt while performing in front of my friends, classmates, and community members. It was that moment that I knew that music was something that I want to do for the rest of my life. Once I entered high school, I joined choir and acappella. I also sang at district and state vocal contests, earning silver and gold throughout high school. My love for music kept growing and when it came time to decide where I wanted to go to college, I knew I wanted to do music. I also have a passion for helping people so I thought, “How can I do music but also help others?” My choir teacher told me about music therapy, and I was instantly interested. So, I looked around for music therapy schools. There weren’t very many in Missouri and I didn’t want to move out of state so I decided to double major in psychology and music. I auditioned for voice at Southeast Missouri State University in November of 2021. I remember that day so clearly as I felt at home on the River Campus. I later enrolled and started attending Southeast Missouri State University where I double majored in music and psychology. While at SEMO, my passion for music has grown even deeper, deeper than I could have ever imagined. I have been involved in worship leading, acappella, choir, opera, composition/songwriting, and recording music. Throughout these last 3 years, my love for people has grown, my passion for music has expanded, and the memories I have made and experiences I have had, have been something that I wouldn’t be able to get anywhere else. God has truly blessed me with all of these people in my life and opportunities that I have experienced. Without God, I would not be where I am now. Through the tough times in college, God has been my guiding light and I strive to be that for others. I don’t know what the future holds but I do know that God will be with me through it and will use me in others’ lives. I’m so excited to continue my musical journey and to help others!
